What is Permanent Cosmetics?

Permanent Cosmetic Makeup also referred to as Micro-Pigmentation or Cosmetic tattooing, is the trained application of pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. Which results in a cosmetic tattoo that emulates eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, lip liner and lipstick. Application by a trained professional can provide quite natural looking results. And is quickly becoming a norm in the beauty profession as a time saving permanent method of applying makeup to the face. The most common applications involve the eyebrows, eyeliner and lips. Today more women are opting for the convenience of a wash and wear face with eye makeup and lip color that won't wear off.

How permanent is permanent?

Permanent Cosmetics are considered permanent because once the pigment is implanted into the skin it cannot be washed off. However, fading can and will occur. When the color is freshly applied, it will look "too dark". After the healing process is complete, there will be an obvious loss of color. True color will be achieved in 6 weeks. Generally, after the original application the longevity of pigment in the skin is 3 to 5 years. Pigment will fade over time because of many factors such as skin exfoliation (both natural and chemically induced), sun exposure and medication. Sun exposure is the major reason pigment fades. Daily use of a sunscreen and an effort to avoid sun exposure will help. However, as with any tattoo, fading can and often does occur, requiring periodic maintenance. As with many cosmetic procedures, the results are to be deemed permanent and you should make that decision carefully.

Will it hurt?

Permanent cosmetic procedures of a skin are invasive and therefore you may experience some discomfort. This may vary according to each individual's pain threshold and the skills of the technician performing the service. HOWEVER, keep in mind that there are different methods available to help with pain management, including various topical anesthetic ointments and anesthetic blocks (administered by a doctor or dentist). Your technician can discuss these methods with you to determine which one is right for you.

How long does it take?

The initial consultation takes approximately 30 minutes; this includes paperwork, color choice, and a patch test, which needs to be assessed in 24 hours. The actual procedure generally takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. With a follow up appointment in 6 weeks for final result exam and any touch-ups, if needed.

                              Are Permanent Cosmetics safe?

Our Advanced Intradermal Cosmetic technicians perform all procedures with one-time disposable supplies and follow strict sanitation and sterilization guidelines as required by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Superb instrumentation and topical anesthetics are available making Permanent Cosmetics a safe procedure. There are no known allergic reactions to the pigments used around the eyes but there have been a few reported reactions to some of the red dyes used in lip colors. A color/sensitivity patch test will be preformed at every consultation.

What will I look like immediatly afterwards?

There can be slight swelling, redness, or even bruising which will subside shortly thereafter. You may be asked to refrain from wearing makeup or contacts depending on the area treated and you will want to avoid sun exposure for a few days. Most people schedule the procedure for the end of the week, or a scheduled time off, yet you may resume regular activities immediately.

How much does permanent cosmetic makeup cost?

The average cost per procedure varies somewhat but usually averages between $100-$500. The cost of the procedure is not the most important issue when consulting a potential technician. Most important is the training and skill of the technician and the confidence of the client in that skill.
